Introduction to SAP (system application and product) and BW/BI:
SAP it stands for System application product in data processing, it is an ERP tool,
ERP – enterprise resource planning

ERP market; in total ERP market SAP applications having almost 70% business,
Remaining 30% share, oracle apps, people soft, BAAN, MS dos Etc…..

SAP was founded by IBM former employees in 1972 in Waldorf  Germany. The main advantages of using sap as your company ERP system is that SAP has a very high level of integration among its individual applications guarantee consistency of data throughout the system and company itself.

SAP product is considering excellent but not perfect, the main problem with software is that it can never be perfect.

SAP modules:

SAP solutions include a number of function modules, Such as:
Ø  Human Resource (HR)
Ø  Financial supply chain management (FSCM)
Ø  Financial Accounting (FI)
Ø  Controlling (CO)
Ø  Material Management (MM)
Ø  Sales and Distribution (SD)
Ø  Logistics Execution (LE)
Ø  Production Planning (PP)
Ø  Quality Management (QM)
Ø  Project System (PS)
Ø  Plant Maintenance (PM)

What is SAP BW/BI

SAP Net weaver business warehouse is the name of Business intelligence; it was originally named by SAP BIW (Business information warehouse), analytical, Reporting and data warehousing solution produced by SAP AG. SAP BIW abbreviated to SAP BW, but it known as SAP BI at end user level

In the SAP BW/BI training essentially we learn three major parts those are

MODELING (In the data warehouse work bench)
EXTRACTION
REPORTING
AND RE- MODELING

It SAP BI is an Entity Relationship model (ERM)

Entity- any object some set of properties is Entity.

                        Entities

             Customer                                  material                             salesman

Minimum we required 3 entities for maintain in a table in the form of fields, every table should have one primary key

Customer ID
Material ID
Sales person ID

ERM:

Is the methodology using which we organize data in the OLTP applications
Ex: SAP ERP.
OLTP- Online transaction process (Normalized data)
OLAP- Online analytical process (DE-normalized data)

In order to define the relationship between various entities tables, we should have only normalized data
When we use the ERM model to organize data in the data warehouse following limitations
1.      Data warehouse which we are use for analytical process always consist of de- normalized data (redundancy of data), when redundancy is there we can’t use ERM

2.      Still if we use ERM to organize data in the data warehouse, it increases complexity of relationship between various tables. Which affect query performance?

To overcome those limitations ENTITY RELATIONSHIP MODEL has been customized according to data warehouse requirement and it has been renamed has MULTI DIMENSIONAL MODEL

 Multi Dimensional Model:

We have 4 methods to organize data using multidimensional model,

1. STAR SCHEMA

2. EXTENDED STAR SCHEMA

3. SNOW FLEX SCHEMA

4. HYBRID

To construct data in the data warehouse using multidimensional model, we have 2 approaches

1.      TOP DOWN

2.      BOTTOM UP

Always in the SAP BW we used top down only.
